If the cylinder is a two way it will have two hoses going to it. One connected at the bottom of the cylinder to push the piston out and the other at the top to push it back in. If this is what you have you may just have air in the return line. Does the M have live hydraulics? If not then you need to lock the control rod for the on-board hydraulics in the pulled out position. This is true for extending the cylinder and for retracting it.
