Frank - HR's advice is right on - here's a few more things I've found will help: 1 - Make sure the carb (especially the idle mixture) is properly adjusted with the engine fully warmed up and running in non-icing conditions. 2 - In icing conditions, get the choke full opened and load the motor as quickly as possible after starting. If you cannot load the motor, let it warm at half-throttle or faster. 3 - Make sure the thermostat is working. Also adding a winter front (or closing the radiator shutters if you've got 'em) results in a faster warmup, also lets warmer air blow back toward the carb from the fan. 4 - Sometimes a bottle or two of drygas added to the gas tank helps.
