I've had problems with the magneto on my A. What happens is that the coil under the cap on top rotates a little and the post is no longer making contact with the flat spring. When this happens no spark is being transmitted to the coil. Look for spark at the coil output. If you have spark there, then look for it at #1 Cyl. If you have spark there, then make sure #1 is at TDC with both valves closed. I've actually put a mark on the casting where #1 lines up in case I get the drive gears off - it's easy to line up when you know for sure where it should be! Good luck, this can be frustrating to say the least.
