Well, I have a Hiesler road gear unit for mine, but never put it in yet as it has bad bearings, but it bolts up on the input of the trans and has a shift lever that goes back under the rear tank support. The coupler joint on the clutch shaft has to be removed and also the rolled steel sheild has to as well. They may have had a high speed trans available for rubber tired tractors, but I don"t have a parts book to check that out. My 12 is lucky to hit 3.5 MPH in 3rd gear and came with steel originally. It has 36" tires if I remember right. It pulls real well if I weight it down good. Some 12s had 40" which would speed things up a bit.
