My 460 gas Utility had a surging problem that turned out to be a low oil level. BUT my hydraulics, including the fast hitch are very slow. I have yet to take the seat and cover off to check the intake tube screen. Hopefully it is that and not a pump that needs rebuilding. The hyd filter is located on the right hand side of the tractor under a plate bolted right to the transmission housing. As for a level check I am unawre of one. I have searched high low for one. I have a few weeping leaks in the system and have added nearly 4 gallons. My guesstimation is that I probably have 12-13 gallons in it. I think in this case more is better than not enough.
If anyone has a method of determining how much is in the system I'd like to know too.
