Im pretty much in agreement with all the good tips below. Look for signs of leakage on that coil and see if it passes the smell test and also if its so hot you cant hold your hand on it. If so, Id wonder about things like someone did a 6 to 12 volt conversion and didnt change to a 12 volt coil or didnt add an external ballast resistor. If the coils not hot or leaky Id just change the condensor first since thats such a cheap n easy job n then look to the coil (or the ballast resistor situation or one that overheats) if the problem persists.
