With the same number it will ring at both houses until you specify the old one to be disconnected. Of course you have to make sure they know what you are talking about. I did the same thing as you -- just moved and wanted phone in my new house on 8/30, disconnect the old one on 8/31, as I was at both locations for those 2 days --- SO they disconnected the old one on 8/30 and didn't get the new one in until 8/31 PM. Satellite TV was supposed to be connected on 8/30 -- of course without a phone and a new street no one had heard of, I didn't get TV until 9/3 -- didn't miss much.
