I have a IH 504 Utility with a D188 engine. Engine runs fine except for an annoying problem with the trottle. If you slow engine down quickly, it will shut off instead of returning to idle. If you move the trottle lever slowly back to idle, this doesn't happen. It uses a Roosa-Master fuel pump which has a separate shut off lever, it faces away from the engine, the trottle lever is closest to the engine. Any ideas or suggestions? Also does anybody know what the fuel return bypass system was used for? The parts book gives a parts number of 606847C91. It appears to eliminate the return line to the fuel tank. What problem was it supposed to correct? How important is the check ball in the return line fitting in the bottom of the tank? Could that be a cause of a no fuel problem when attempting to start?
