I agree. And typically a engine that continues to run is running hot on the spark causing the plug to continue glowing (dieseling like glow plug) which forces it to continue running. Choking it wont fix the real problem. If it is running the plugs to hot, it can cause serious damage to the engine like hole in piston, metal in cylinder wall (like melted plug tip) etc etc.
A hot plug can be from over advanced timing. It can also be from wrong temp plug that is too high temp spark rating. Also make SURE to set the spark plug gap to spec, and use manufacturers recomended plug to ensure correct temp. Set the timing for sure. I would check the points too while your at it. A super lean engine I think could cause it. But everytime Ive seen this its been related to spark one way or another.
