One way toget it, is the positive post is just a bit larger than the neg post.So the big end cable goes on the big post.

If you didn't distort your ends to much you can tell that way.

Another way is the post are set off to one side of the battery. Try to remember which side of the box they were on when you removed the battery. Then see how the cables best reach. Most times the ground will not reach to the other post.

I'm sure there's a technical way to tell also, but I don't know it.(:~})
