Lanse, he probably tipped over the tractor and got engine oil in the breather. He didn't tell you because he was embarrassed. There may be issues with the carb, or the pulse valve in the side cover that acts like a PCV valve. If it was not tipped, (and you were witness to the fact, the valve may still be an issue. it is located in the tin side cover over the valve springs. Good luck. I would also recommends the garden tractor forum for better help, and more specific answers. The units are really not toys, playing with them will aways be a danger and liability (as well as a great way to wreck them) Most youngsters know nothing and care less for property and propriety.
