If it is shifting, and not jambing between gears, it is OK. The amount of wear on them can cause them to be free. Removint the lever, and putting grease on the dome seal and pivot area would be nice to it. If it is giving trouble the tip needs to be built up and ground down to just fit into the rail slots Several images are inthe archives.JimN
