Joe: A hydraulic pump should prime on it's own, very much as Red said. The design on those hydraulic lines to the touch control unit can take a bit of time to fill and the reservoir has to be full. Parking the tractor with front end about 1' lower than rear can help. Also, loosen hydraulic lines at the pump until oil pushes the air through.

Another item that could be impedeing oil flow is the screen in the touch control unit. Oil flowing to pump must go through that screen, thus the screen must be clean. I always clean that screen if I have a tractor split. It should be done yearly anyhow. Very likely when you had those lines off, you lost all oil in them, now oil must flow to pump by graviety, and anything you can do to enhance that graviety will help.
