I'll add that seal "snake oil" rejuvenator is usually a compound of materials that are chemically incompatible with seal material causing them to swell up and grow (like one of those compressed sponges that kids play with) when they do, they can seal up the leak for a week or two, but then the seal (and all other rubber and composition materials in the equipment) decompose and fail.
