300U steering question

The gear box had been taken apart when I got my 300U several years ago and a bolt had been put in place of the dowel that should be there. IT manual says the hole should be reamed and a new dowel inserted. I've never worked with dowels. Can someone tell me how to go about finding them and getting the correct one? With only a bolt in the hole the 2 halves tend to slip enough the right front wheel becomes wobbly when driving the tractor. I've tightened it a couple of times but it doesn't stay put. I'd like to get it fixed correctly.
