You will need to know if the top two terminals are electrically connected with the switch in the off position. If they are electrically isolated all you need to do is connect the wire and it should work fine. If they are electrically connected you will need a resistor or diode in that circut to keep the alternator from energizing the ignition circut when you shut off the switch. If the alternator works without the #1 wire hooked up you have a "one wire'" alternator and do not need to connect the wire. If you do connect it the alternator will start to charge at a lower RPM. The single wire units usually need to spin at half throttle or higher before they start to charge. Once they start charging they should continue to charge even at low idle. Single wire alternators continue to draw a small amount even when not in use so for storage of longer than a month it is a good idea to disconnect the battery.
