Re 484 lifting higher than 584,684..the answer is in the placement of the lift yokes on the lower lift links. On the 484 the lift yokes are connected at the mid point of the lift links.
The larger 584,684,784,884, cat II/III 3pt lift links the lift yoke is connected closer to the implement end of the lift link therefore reducing the drop and height lift of the lift arms. IH did this to increase the 3pt lift capacity of the 584 and larger tractors because all the other components of the 3pt system are the same.
