All TAs can be tested the same for adjustment. This applies to both mechanical and hydraulic styles.

Make sure that you have two distinct speeds when the TA lever is shifted. Face the tractor uphill. With the transmission in low gear and the TA lever forward, make sure that the tractor will start roll backward when the clutch pedal is about 3/4 of the way depressed. With the clutch fully released, make sure the transmission can be shifted even when the tractor rolls backward a little. With the tractor in first gear, start to release the clutch. Let up a little on the brakes to find the point where the TA will lock up and the tractor stops rolling backward. From this point, you should need to release the clutch a little more before the tractor starts to move forward. If the tractor starts to move before the TA locks up you will get a double shift when releasing the clutch.
