Farmall M to be changed back to manual steering

My '52 power steering pump is ruined so I decided to use my own muscles to steer the tractor (as we did with our Farmall H) since I can't afford a new pump. Has anyone converted the powersteering back to manual? Here is what I plan to do:
1. remove pump, pump mounting bracket, reservoir, and belt
2. remove hydraulic lines to steering shaft unit and plug line holes.
3. drive as-is. Since part of the steering shaft had to be cut when the powersteering was installed I plan to leave the unit in place (that is, between the shaft ends). Does this sound like it will work. Is there a better way? Are there any un-cut steering shafts available? Thanks Allen
