Lowell: Actually I see it a bit different than that, you see when Europeans came to North America, the rugged Scots, Irish, Scandinavians and other Northern Europeans, spread out across present day Canada and the Northern US. The English being the softies they were, headed south into the Verginias and the Carolinas. Until you folks threw the tea in Boston Harbour and declared Independence, the English had very little interest in Canada. After that they came crying home to Canada, being what they saw as part of the British Empire and as United Empire Loyaliats. Most of them soon got tired of cold winters, and headed for such spots as Austrailia, New Zeland, etc. Thus in 1867, we did pretty much as you folks without even firing a shot, or throwing tea in the harbour.

About the only connection we have with them anymore is the picture of the Queen on our $20. bill. I find more Americans get facinated with that than do Canadians. Quite often when I'm in the US, folks will ask me to see one of my $20. bills, to see the picture of the Queen. I guess they are Englishmen who's ancestors didn't make it back across the border.
