Old's got it covered. A bad float or needle is the most common cause. Shut your fuel off at the sediment bowl when you shut down, and you'll likely take care of it. I like to shut my fuel down and let it run a few (15-20)seconds before I kill the engine. If you already do, or you start and it persists, you may have a combination of running way too rich and rings that aren't doing their job (too worn on an old motor or a new rebuild and not seated yet).
