I check it running with the piston extended, better to be a little over as it will go out the breather, if you run them dry they can be a pain. another way to check for leaks (internal leaks) is to fill the cylinder (fully extend it ) take the weight off with a jack and plug the hoses with 1/2 plugs (or whatever size the hoses are from the control valve)remove the jack and let it set for a while see if the cylender goes down this will isolate the cylender from the valve. if it goes down it needs rebuild or replace, if it holds put some weight on it and check again. repost if you need more help!!!!
