Most likely, you have bearing issues. I have been through this. The whole pickup unit does come off and needs to. There are bolts or wedges around a yoke that need removing to get the unit off. You also have to unhook the drive chain. You just as well rebuild it completely, if you plan to use it for very long. Each of those pickup bars will have a bearing on each end. They at least need checking out. These are high priced. I think I paid 38 dollars a piece for them. The stipper shields need removing as well. I rebuilt the one on my 430 twice in the last 30 years. These can be a pain to put back together.
