I bet you didn't pull the two bolts out that connect the throw out bearing lever to the carrier? That more than likely didn't brake. Mine was in the exact same condition you have described, but mine broke one of the tabs off of the bell housing. Anyway, you have to remove the shaft from the left side of the bell housing. Did you pull the two bolts and keyway washers that clamp the throw out bearing carrier to the lever shaft?
