The 9*12*P indicates that it was cast in 1946. It could be an H/W4, M/W6, a W9, or any of their equivalent stand alone U series that are used in road graders, irrigation engines, etc. I can't comment further without seeing it, the ones I listed differ greatly in size. With the X1 suffix (gasoline) it probably did not come from a A,B,C, etc, as they generally did not use that suffix.
