Hi Gene, I had heard a long time ago that IH and a bunch of other maufactuers used lard oil for machining and cutting threads. When I took apart my 10-20 that sat outside for 30-40 years I only twisted off 3 bolts total on it and all the threads were still in good shape even the ones in the radiator!. If I replace a bolt with one that is plated, I remove the plating with acid, those plated bolts always get stuck bad and twist off especially if put together dry. My Grandpa used lard also, unsalted of course!.
