Sometime around 1980, we were picking corn for a neighbor, who had a bumper crop. I was using dads old M and a two row mounted New Idea picker. After dinner that day I was picking along and noticed a small flame coming around the muffler. I thought I would take my hat and beat it out(WRONG) Just as I stood up the tractor, picker and all went puff and flames surrounded me. It burned all my hair and eyebrows off. I did manage to get the outfit out of standing corn. I don't know how, it only had one plug wire left when we fixed it. My dad had a fit, blamed it all on me. The only damage it done was smoked up the paint and burned several wires off. It cost 7 dollars at the time for a set of plug wires and we were back to picking.
