Living in Lansing Michigan at the time, I had a friend who was an engineer on that project. I agree with you in that it was not a "converted" gas engine. But they did start out with the basic blueprint (Spacing, layout) of the gas engine,(as they had tooling for it) By the time they got done beefing up what was needed, there was very little in common with the 350 gas engine anymore, and that was my point. It's not pratical to make a diesel out of a gas engine.
