Though not a super easy analysis,
with weight on the axle, Using the depth gauge slider on a 6" caliper, measure from a point where the axle comes out of the housing, to the axle straight down, at the top. Take the weight off with a jack, so that the wheel/tire is suspended an inch or two. Make the same measurement again. If there is more than about .002" I would be repairing the bearing shims, bearings, or both. The wear location on the axle/hub which touches the seal could also be grooved. A spedy steeve, or setting the seal at a different depth, or using a different seal with a lip location different from the original will work wonders. JimN
