I have seen at least 3 different patterns of lenses. One has the verticle flutes on the outside and the horizontal flutes on the inside, and the second is vice-versa. I have also seen them smooth on the outside with both horizontal and verticle flutes (checker pattern) on the inside. I don't know when they used which types.
I think my fairly orginal 39 H has the horizontal flutes on the outside, but the lights may have been added after it left the factory.
