Farmall Cub Shifting forks

I have a cub with broken shifting forks in the transmission. I have been told by one source that I can replace these without removing the transmission. I have read in the manual that I need to remove the transmission. Can anybody help me with this? I need to get the ractor up and running again. Thanks
