You bring up a good point, but the newer software has that taken care of as well. You can click on "subscribe" and you will get an email notification whenever anyone replies to the thread, not just the first reply.

Also in your control panel with the new software you can list all the threads that you have subscribed to and get to them quickly.

In my opinion, the newer forum software is user-friendly and only takes a couple of days to get used to. Given the volume of people visiting and posting to these forums, there will come a day when this old software can't keep up.
