I have seen archive photos of Farmall Cs with black seats. That would mean they used the black till at least 1948. The black probably faded to a lighter, maybe tan color. They switched to silver because it reflected the heat rather than absorbing it. Darryl Darst could tell you for sure when they changed from black to silver.
