The TA is a 2-speed powershift transmission that allows the operator to downshift on the fly to a slightly lower gear if he runs out of power or needs to move at a slower speed due to crop or field conditions.

There are two types of TAs, the original mechanical TA, and a hydraulically-operated TA that is used on larger tractors.

If you ever get a tractor with a TA, remember: Don't run down a hill with the TA lever back, and don't pull the TA lever back while going downhill.
