If the hydraulic reservoirs were completely dry, that's not good news. They probably went dry from neglect, not some misguided preventative maintenance.

The gear can't be stripped, or the tractors would not run, since the distributor is driven by the hydraulic pump.

On the right side of the steering pedestal is a little round cover with 4 bolts. That's the filter screen. It probably needs cleaning, and is occasionally the reason why hydraulics don't work.

I believe there is a small plug in the top of the pump for priming, but if the pump is any good, it should prime itself if the reservoir is full.

The 450D's pump will be a problem, as it is special. It turns backwards, and they don't make replacement pumps. Neither pump can be rebuilt.
