Hugh: My son has a 1963 140 and it has a noticeable bearing "growl" coming from the left side, thus cannot tell if it is the tranny or the left side final drive. What is your "best guess" - and could it be a dry final drive, which would quiet down after receiving proper gear lube? He would have checked the final drive for lube already, but for the fact the Woods mower is in the way to check the fluid level. All other lubes have been changed and topped off. I have certainly heard louder growls in this series..... Please let me know what you think. Thanks. mike
