I don't know from nothing about 686's but isn't the frame size similar to H derived descendents like 300, 330, 340, 350, 460, 504, 606, 656, and maybe more. If that is the case, a W-4 axle housing might bolt up to a 686. The basic W-6 design and tooling died with 560/660 and the W-9 died with the 650.
