Heating in oil makes the most sense. I however have had much sucess just putting mine in the oven at about 150 to 175 degrees. Let it "soak" in there for at least 30 minutes to fully heat. Then coat the sealing surf with oil to slightly cool and lube it. Then just tap it on. Works well.
