Zenith carburetor

Sometimes caburetor on tractor will clog and resrict gas flow. Though not to often. Have screen in sediment bowl. Which try to clean out whenever it looks like it needs it. Took carburetor of last time cleaned with compressed air it worked good. Never claimed to be much of a mechanic but was wondering? Instead of taking carburetor off and apart could I have shut off fuel. Unhooked fuel line and blew compressed air directly into carburetor and would this have maybe helped and possible saved some time. Or would this cause problem with the carburetor. Thanks
