On my 1951 M I have a Heisler 9 speed transmission with the hi-standard lever on the left side of the gear shift lever. On the right side in the location you mention I have a belly pump disconnect lever so you can disconnect the belly pump when in high range with the Heisler engaged. The purpose is to keep from over running the belly pump as the pump drive shaft is also running at a higher RPM when in the high range. If you have a Heisler transmission it is somewhat different looking then the M&W described in another post. It has a lever which looks somewhat like a gear shift lever and mounts on the top plate with rigid solid linkage running up along the left side of the transmission case to where it enters the case.
