If you mean an H (don't think other models would be much different), gauge working range for non-pressurized radiator is 130-160 degrees, pressurized 170-220. I would think either a 160 or 180 would work, in cold weather a 180 is probably better, as it takes those things forever to warm up. From practical experience with an H with a pressurized radiator, and a good cap, the cap releases water (not antifreeze, it seldom froze) as the gauge just creeps into the red. The 130-160 degrees makes little sense to me, since that's 52 degrees below the boiling point of water.
