I installed an M&W clutch on my H. The bull pinion shaft does not move in and out. The set up is similar to a Harley-Davidson clutch. The shaft from the differential carries several clutch disks out near the right brake and these contact clutch plates on a hollow bull pinion shaft. The input shaft rides inside the output shaft. When the M&W is disengaged, the power is cut to the right wheel and the differential in turn cuts power to the left wheel. It is not good practice to disengage the M&W for long periods as it does a number on the differential. You still have to use the engine clutch to shift gears.
