You can put stepped head pistons in and use any head. The dome on the IH "firecrater" pistons is only 21 ccs. The cylinder volume, not counting the head, is roughly 650 ccs. If you are just putting in stepped head pistons, you could be looking at something under a 3% increase in compression ratio.

If you are going to all that trouble, why not use new parts ? This site has reasonably priced piston and sleeve kits, that I hear are decent quality.
