wedge locks?

what are wedge lock wheels? what part is the wedge lock refering to--the rim clamp or the axle clamp?
pics?
at home have a 1256 to look at and an H. both axle clamps are u-bolt style. rims are different mounting style--1256 the clamps support the rim to hub and a couple clamps interlock with the rim to keep it from spinning, H is ...h style rims where there is a block that interlocks with the hub. have had this question for 15 years!
