If you are describing what I think you are, then I have experienced the same thing. When I bought the 1466 from my father-in-law, I had to road it 60 miles home in a light rain (some fun with a canopy but no cab). The steering was so loose, I had trouble keeping it between the ditches. When I got home I got a friend to help me add 3 washers to that pin. There is still a gap, but not nearly what it was, and the steering is much better now.
