The noise is probably the sound of cavitation which is not good. It will destroy your pump molecule by molecule. Each high and low wave in the frequency that you hear is a vacuum being created followed by the rapiid collapse of that vacuum.

Ok, enough with the theory. Your pump is not getting enough oil. Check hoses, filter (if any), and breather in the reservoir. Do whatever it takes to get more oil to the inlet of the pump.
