David � That �snap� you hear when you first apply the brakes is pretty much normal. As your farmer friend suggests the snapping should diminish/disappear as the brakes wear in.

To adjust the pedal free play simply adjust the pull rod on the right pedal so the pedal moves freely about 1� before the brake disk makes contact. (You can feel when the disk makes contact when you move the pedal by hand). Then adjust the left pedal to match the right.
