I agree with everyone else, that you should put some pex tubing in the slab for heat. Definitely insulate, you can use styrofoam or the foil back. I would say that you need to run the water at a higher temperature than 70 degrees, just because otherwise it might be hard to keep it warm in there. If you are just looking to keep the chill off, it should work. Also, most water heaters and boilers arent very efficient at that low temperature, most work better at higher temps.

I do suggest using the water heater instead of the boiler, they are better at taking in the cold water in case you shut down the heating system for a while. You can thermal shock a boiler otherwise if your circ pump kicks on and dumps cold water in.

You could also use a heat exchanger on a woodstove if you really wanted to...

Just some thoughts, but I really do like the heated slabs.
