Impulse should click just AFTER top dead center. If it fires before TDC, it'll push the piston back down the way it came & kick back. Take a spark plug out, bring that cylinder up onto compression, turn the crank slowly, & watch the position of the piston when the impluse trips. Once that relationship is properly set, then I always set the spark advance on the mag to just off the kill position for starting, then advance it to run. Unless you're working it hard, having the timing a little bit retarded won't hurt anything. Having it too far retarded will make the engine overheat. Keith
