I'm looking to get a larger, more powerful tractor (have 2 Hs and a Cub) and am trying to decide between a SMTA and a 450. The SMTA is nice and original, in good shape with good paint, has drawbar. The 450 is good and solid, more powerful with working TA, 2-pt hitch with 3-pt conversion, remote hydraulics. The owner of the SMTA wants well more than twice the asking price of the owner of the 450. I assume the SMTA is more collectable, even though the 450 seems to be way more workable. Is the SMTA THAT collectable? Are they extremely rare? Maybe its because its the "last" of the letter series? It seems to me that the 450 is just a later version of the SMTA? Does the naming scheme add THAT much to the value. Just wondering and I'd like to hear what you all think. I have interest in working AND collecting tractors. One of my Hs is my "work" tractor with 3-pt, the other is a looker but I still plow with it. And before you suggest it, I'd buy them BOTH in a heartbeat if money were no issue!
